COSMO | Review - Mudbound
“What good is a deed?”
Mudbound, now available on Netflix, is a beautifully emotional narrative of two generations of families living on one piece of land in World War II era Mississippi. One family has owned the land for years, while the other has worked, plowed, sweat, and bled on the same land, but aren’t entitled to an inch of it. Both are families of farmers, each with a son fighting in the war, but are facing two very different sides of the reality of life The United States when prejudice & racism was at a serious peak. Dee Rees, writer & director known for Bessie (2015) and Pariah (2011), did an amazing job combining her vision with that of cinematographer Rachel Morrison (Fruitvale Station 2013). I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more projects from both of them. Check out the trailer below and be sure to share your thoughts!
