COSMO | Review - Given

I'm starting a new phase in my cinematography journey by watching a new short film or documentary at least once a day. It's becoming my favorite form of research and a great way to build my knowledge of Film. I'd like to start with a film that hit home in so many ways for me. It's amazingly beautiful, filled with scenes of travel, and teaches many life lessons that are often learned as a child but forgotten throughout adulthood.

Released in November 2016, Given is a magically beautiful example of storytelling. Seen through the brilliant mind and memories of 6-year-old Given Goodwin (son of legendary pro surfers Aamion & Daize Goodwin) the documentary follows the enchanting and unique legacy of a 15 country wide trip from Kauai to Figi. It is finally Given's turn to take the trip that his father and grandfather both took at his age with hopes to help his dad catch "The Big a Fish". Between the stunning cinematography and Given's childlike yet pure narration, this film can very easily become a top pick for any audience.
